Scribe for Mac and Scribe Remote for iPhone · Last updated September 11, 2026
Scribe is built so that your meetings stay yours. This page explains what the apps do with data, in plain terms.
What Scribe for Mac does with your data
- Audio and transcripts stay on your Mac. Meeting audio is captured and transcribed on the Mac itself using a local speech model. Transcripts are plain text files in a folder you choose. Nothing is uploaded to us; we run no servers and have no accounts.
- Optional features that involve third parties are off by default and clearly labelled. If you turn on minutes generation or answers with Claude, the text you choose (a transcript, or a question plus a few transcript passages) is sent to Anthropic through the Claude Code tool you installed, under Anthropic’s terms. If you install the Claude Desktop extension, it reads and writes only the two folders you pick. Ollama and Apple Intelligence features run entirely on your Mac.
- Updates. The Mac app checks a public update feed to offer new versions. That request carries no personal information beyond what any web request includes.
- Optional Slack and calendar steps in the minutes workflow use connectors you have set up yourself in Claude; Scribe does not access them directly.
What Scribe Remote for iPhone does with your data
- It connects only to your own Mac, over a direct, encrypted peer-to-peer link on your local network or Bluetooth. Pairing uses a code shown on the Mac; the resulting token is stored on your phone and Mac only.
- It sends commands (start, pause, stop, mark, snapshot, check for updates) and receives recording status and transcript lines from your Mac. Those lines are shown on screen and are not stored on the phone after the app closes.
- It collects no analytics, has no account, contains no advertising, and does not track you. It makes no network requests other than to your Mac, except when you choose to open a link to this site or share the Mac download link.
Purchases
- Scribe for Mac is free for your first 20 meetings. Unlocking it after that is a one-time purchase processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record — Scribe has no payment servers of its own. Lemon Squeezy collects your email and payment details to process the order and issue a license key; we only ever see the email address and license status, not your payment details.
- The license key, its activation status, and that email address are stored in your Mac's Keychain, alongside a small local counter of how many meetings you've recorded. Neither is sent anywhere except to Lemon Squeezy's license-activation API, to check the key is valid.
- Full terms: the License Agreement.
Permissions the apps ask for
Scribe for Mac asks for Screen & System Audio Recording and Microphone to capture meetings, and optionally Accessibility (to post a notice in Zoom chat and read the active speaker), Calendar (to name recordings), and Local Network (for the iPhone remote). Scribe Remote asks for Local Network so it can find your Mac. Each is used only for the stated purpose.
Children
The apps are not directed at children under 13 and collect no personal information from anyone.
